Pixel Art: Floppy Disk

At Doodle U, we miss the days of actually using A:/ drive. I’m pretty sure my tower doesn’t even have a place to install one if I wanted to pop in an old diskette of Oregon Trail.

For our younger students enrolled, please ignore this old lady’s ramblings and get your graphics program fired up! We’re pixeling NOW!

Quick Pixels: Art Supplies

Unlike the other pixel tutorials, these are a quick shot at a few different kinds of supplies: pencil, crayon, and marker (favourites around here at Doodle U).

Each design is based upon a simple rectangle with little rounded bits and chunks taken away. Easy peasy.

Occassional Adverts

Hi hi, darlings.

Just a small heads up. In addition to tutorials and tips throughout the week, I’ll be posting little bits of promo media  — things that help make Doodle U run (Acrylicana, Scented Shoelaces, Apparel Dynasty, etc) (no more than 4x a month).

Without such things, Doodle U wouldn’t be in existence.  Thanks for your fantastic understanding :) Now back to creating! :D

Pixel Art: Pancakes

Good Morning! What a better way to start the day than with some piping hot griddle cakes? Let’s make some now! We’re pushing pixels in Photoshop, but you can use whatever graphics program you’re savvy to, dearhearts!

Easiest way to make a circle: using a circle tool. If you like a perfect, cleaner look, you can play with the edges.

Draw your syrup on a separate layer (if your program allows for layers).
Reduce the syrup layer’s opacity (and merge).
How about some butter, y’all!

Copy and paste the pancake. Place it beneath your main one, slightly hutting out for that stacked look.

Pixel Art: Happy Toast

Good Morning! Let’s make some pixeled breakfast, ok? For starters, how about a piece of toast! In this tutorial, I’ll be using Photoshop. You can use whatever drawing program you’re most comfortable with, though.

Toast pieces start with a simple rectangle.

Round those corners.

Let’s make it a more bread-like shape.

And breakfast is served!

Back in Action :)

Doodle U is back in action, darlings! :)

It’s been a lovely break, but class must get back in session. We’ll update with a new project, tutorial, or tip 3-5 times a week. Hit up the ASK box if you have any questions for our faculty, want to show off your projects, or just want to say “HI!”.
